JOB SUMMARY:
The Preschool Academy Principal is the chief academic officer of the Preschool Academy and a member of the senior management team. The Principal is responsible for overall operations and management, maintaining educational quality standards, retaining students, maintaining open communication with parents, and representing the Academy to community groups, as delegated.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Recommends Academy staff hiring, promotions, and disciplinary actions;
2. Supervises and evaluates the Assistant Principal and staff;
4. Provides inhouse training and professional development for Academy staff;
5. Ensures compliance with licensure, accreditation, and institutional standards and policies;
6. Conducts meetings of Academy staff to discuss and coordinate Academy policy and procedures;
7. Assist in marketing the Academy in the local community and recruiting students;
8. Maintains target student enrollment at all times;
9. Ensures proper and timely completion of student enrollment documentation;
10. Develops and maintains positive and open communication with parents of Academy Students;
11. Conducts meeting of parents of Academy students;
12. Conducts orientation for parents of Academy students using Family Handbook as a guide
13. Publishes monthly Academy newsletter for parents of Academy students;
14. Assists parents to complete applications for preschool tuition assistance/scholarship;
15. Manages the Academy Budget;
16. Authorizes administrative and financial request forms;
17. Submits reports to the President, as requested;
18. Represents the Academy to outside groups and organizations, as assigned by the President;
19. Serves as ex officio member of Academy Parents Council;
20. Serves as voting member of the Board's Program & Assessment and Scholarship & Recognitions Committees;
21. Serves as Community Liaison to the homeoweners/civic association;
22. Attends trustee meetings; and
23. Provides such other related duties as may, from time-to-time, be assigned.
Must be able and willing to work no less than 40 hours weekly. As would be expected of a senior management level job, actual hours vary based on the current needs of the Academy, including scheduled and unscheduled evening and weekend hours.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Master's degree or higher, in Early Childhood or Elementary Education, or related field.
YEARS OF RELATED WORKEXPERIENCE:
At least 5 years of supervisory or managerial experience in a licensed childcare facility or school.
OTHER RELATED REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of computers and computing (specifically MSOffice).
CPR/First Aid and Food Handling certifications.
Excellent verbal and writing skills, as well as demonstrated organizational skills and curriculum experience.
Willingness and ability to work regular early morning, late evening, and some weekend hours.
Experience in NAEYC accredited program desirable but not required.
Fluency in Spanish or other foreign language helpful but not required.

Milton Hopkins, an African American physician who practiced in Alexandria, Virginia until his death at the age of 52 in 1927. Graduates of Hopkins House programs include a former Mayor of the City of Alexandria, Circuit Court Judge, Army General, Hollywood musician, and other achievers.
