The Public Health (PH) Unit Supervisor within the Department of Health and Human Services’ Division of Public Health oversees the Healthy Families Marin Home Visiting Program, an early childhood initiative designed to support parents of newborns. The program focuses on fostering positive parent-child relationships and healthy attachments by providing home visits that share valuable information on child development and parenting. The supervisor plays a key role in guiding home visitor staff through reflective practice and clinical supervision, ensuring best practices in hiring, training, mentoring and overseeing home visits. Responsibilities also include maintaining program accreditation through the Healthy Families America (HFA) model, monitoring program operations, ensuring documentation accuracy, and overseeing data collection and reporting.
In addition to overseeing daily operations, the PH Unit Supervisor is responsible for implementing and maintaining the evidence-based HFA home visiting program for early childhood intervention. This includes hiring, training and supervising staff, ensuring program compliance, managing quality assurance/quality improvement processes, and overseeing budgetary needs. The supervisor ensures that the program delivers culturally sensitive, comprehensive services to at-risk families. This involves assessing family needs, connecting them with resources, and ensuring effective engagement with families, staff and the community. The supervisor also uses data and feedback from staff and families to recommend improvements to program policies, procedures and overall operations. The Department of Health and Human Services currently has two vacant full-time Public Health Unit Supervisor positions.
Our ideal candidate has expertise in working with at-risk children and families and is versed in tenets of trauma-informed care and strength-based and family-centered care to promote nurturing parent-child relationships, enhancing family functioning and promoting healthy child growth and development. The ideal candidate will have experience specifically in home visiting with a strong background in early childhood prevention services with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in utilizing evidence-based and reflective practice (and/or has undergone the Healthy Families American supervisor training). The successful candidate will also have a solid understanding of/or experience supervising and motivating staff, particularly in a in stressful work environment; knowledge of infant and child development; be culturally sensitive; the ability to manage change; good communication and critical thinking skills; and the ability to establish effective collaborative relationships and provide quality assurance/improvement direction for the staff and program. The ideal candidate will have three years of relevant evidence-based early home visitor program experience. Experience in Healthy Families America specifically, is highly desired. The ability to speak, read and write in English and Spanish is also highly desired. A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered to ensure the candidates possess the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements.
