Assistant Teaching Professor of Education

Penn State Harrisburg, School of Behavioral Sciences and Education, invites applications for a fixed-term Assistant Teaching Professor of Education to begin August 2023. An earned doctorate in education, curriculum, and instruction, or a related field with an emphasis on centering culturally sustaining and responsive secondary English language arts/Literacy practices is required.

The successful candidate should have a strong record of teaching, and knowledge of current policies and practices associated with curriculum development and disciplinary literacy. Special consideration will be given to candidates with grades 7-12 teaching experience, a demonstrated knowledge of structured literacy and interventions, expertise in classroom assessment and data literacy, digital and media literacies/multimodalities, and a demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations. Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, participate in academic advising, engage in scholarly activities, provide service across the college, participate in recruitment and accreditation efforts, and supervise candidates in field/student teaching experiences.

Penn State Harrisburg has an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students and is located in Middletown, PA. The College is easily accessible via interstate and rail routes from Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New York. The teacher education program partners with various diverse school districts in surrounding areas to advance the educational opportunities of our candidates and the surrounding communities. The Teacher Education program is a member in good standing with the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) and offers education programs including elementary education with early childhood and middle-level options; secondary education options, post-baccalaureate programs; and the M.Ed. in Teaching and Curriculum. The Teacher Education Department and School of Behavioral Sciences and Education (BSED) feature faculty with a broad range of expertise. The successful candidate should demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with faculty from a broad range of backgrounds to advance the scholarship, teaching, and service mission of Penn State Harrisburg.
