The Florida Southern College Early Learning Center and Preschool enrolls children ages 3-5 for full day and half day programs. It provides an engaging learning environment that supports constructive play and hands-on experiences. The Director supervises all aspects of the daily operation and is responsible to the Dean of Education. The Director must obtain and maintain all Florida Department of Children and Families credentialing requirements.
Administration and Supervision
Maintain organization of the Early Learning Lab according to the standards of the State of Florida Department of Children and Families for prekindergarten/primary/guidelines and those of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
Maintain full compliance with all Department of Children and Families and Department of Health requirements for operation.
Oversee and maximize the enrollment of children in the Early Learning Lab and Summer Camp.
Purchase and/or order equipment, supplies, food etc. within the parameters of the budget allocation.
Schedule all FT and PT staff members to ensure adequate coverage during early care, aftercare, and throughout the Early Learning Lab and summer camp day.
Supervise, train, and evaluate FT and PT staff members (Early Learning Lab teachers, substitutes) employed in the preschool.
Conduct regular staff meetings and training sessions.
Hire and schedule work study students in the Early Learning Lab and Summer Camp.
Supervise, train, and evaluate work study students in the Early Learning Lab and Summer Camp by monitoring daily performance, conducting planning sessions throughout the semester, providing regular feedback.
Process billing for all Early Learning Lab and Summer Camp students.
Process payroll for all Early Learning Lab and Summer Camp staff.
Curriculum and Teaching
Direct the planning and implementation of a standards-based curriculum throughout the academic year in the Early Learning Lab and during Summer Camp.
Teach one of the groups of children (classes) in the Early Learning Lab and Summer Camp.
Oversee the progress monitoring of all children in the Early Learning Lab throughout the academic year.
Assess student learning throughout the academic year and provide results of formal assessments at least twice a year.
Recruit and mentor Early Learning Lab Distinguished Interns from amongst qualified candidates in the School of Education.
Recruitment and Retention
Conduct tours for prospective families.
Design and disseminate recruitment materials as appropriate for the Early Learning Lab and Summer Camp.
Maintain the website for the Early Learning Lab and Summer Camp.
Communicate regularly with parents/families through newsletters, video clips, email communications, telephone calls.
Plan, organize, and implement monthly/seasonal events engaging the students and involving the parents/families.
Contribute to the success of the Early Learning Lab by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.
