UVI is seeking faculty who will ensure that students meet high academic standards in a nurturing and learner-centered environment in keeping with our HBCU status and with interests, experience and expertise in curriculum innovation, interdisciplinary studies and distance education, as well as teaching and scholarly excellence in their specialties. In addition, academic programs support our land grant designation by integrating instruction with research and community service. The School of Education is seeking to fill a position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Early Childhood Special Education. The primary professional responsibilities of the faculty member include teaching undergraduate courses in the field on both campuses whenever necessary, provide unit and university service, lead the accreditation and national approval and ultimately the direction of the program. Other duties deemed necessary to support the unit and institution including student advising at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Required Qualifications The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate degree in Early Childhood, Special Education or related field, teacher certification in early childhood education, and five or more years working with children in early childhood special education and /or inclusion contexts. The candidate must also have an orientation to examine practice and theory through multiple lenses. Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate will have three or more years of demonstrated successful teaching in higher education. S/he should understand multicultural and social justice issues and concerns and should have worked with children from a range of linguistic backgrounds. The candidate must also have mastery of technology skills related to productivity and instruction and be prepared to teach in traditional and non-traditional formats and settings, such as off-campus as part of school partnerships and via distance education using platforms such as Zoom and Blackboard.
