The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at The University of Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track faculty member in the area of Early Childhood Education. At the undergraduate level, our students earn dual certifications in early childhood education and in elementary education, enabling them to teach students from birth through sixth grade. As the state funds an increasing number of public 4-year-old classes annually, there is strong demand for our graduates. First Class: Alabama's Voluntary Pre-K is part of the state's Office of School Readiness and has been acknowledged nationwide as an exemplary program. Preservice teachers in our program have a 100% pass rate on the EdTPA performance assessment. We are extending our students’ clinical experiences through outreach such as a collaboration with Tuscaloosa City Schools establishing a partnership focused on innovation in teaching and research at the pre-K level. Graduate degrees are available at the MA level, the Educational Specialist level, and at the doctoral level (Ph.D. or Ed.D.). Faculty with a focus on early childhood education have extensive external funding for their research and scholarship and productive relationships with state agencies having responsibility for the education and care of young children.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in early childhood education and in curriculum and instruction; plan and supervise practicum and internship experiences’ maintain an active research/publication record; pursue external funding agenda with a focus on early childhood education; direct student research, theses, and dissertations; advise students; collaborate in further development of innovative undergraduate and graduate early childhood programs; collaborate with local schools, school systems and provide service within the University, to state and local education agencies, and to relevant professional organizations.
The successful applicant will begin August 16, 2020. The position and rank will offer a competitive salary commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience. Minimum Qualifications Required: Applicants must have: an earned doctorate in Early Childhood Education, or Curriculum and Instruction, or Elementary Education with specialization in Early Childhood Education; a minimum of 2 years full-time classroom teaching experience at the pre-Kindergarten-grade 3 levels; demonstrated ability to pursue a research agenda focusing on early childhood education; experience with supervising and planning clinical field experiences; ability to teach courses in early childhood education and in curriculum and instruction; demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate with multiple stakeholders; an ability to integrate technology into instruction including web-assisted and other alternative delivery models; and an ability to teach with a multicultural perspective.
Additional Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in collaborative settings and experience with ESL populations.
