MTSU’s Department of Elementary and Special Education invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#116180) at the assistant/associate professor rank. Start date for the position is August 1, 2020.
Primary responsibilities include undergraduate instruction in early childhood education. This position would be responsible for supporting instruction across the early childhood program, and elementary program as needed and appropriate. Responsibilities could include supporting students’ development related to how children learn, cultural responsiveness, literacy instruction, using technology to enhance learning, and using evidence-based practices in field experiences. Other responsibilities could include supervision of students in field-based placements and teaching beginning education courses or courses in other undergraduate or graduate programs in the Department, as appropriate. Mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students, university, public, and professional service and scholarly activity relevant to the candidate’s discipline also required.
Responsibilities also may include other teaching assignments in the Ed.D. or Ph.D. programs, and/or other College of Education programs, based on the qualifications of the faculty and the needs of the department and college programs. Teaching assignments may include courses that meet outside of normal business hours (some midweek and/or Friday evenings & weekends). Some courses meet off campus and may require travel. (All program related travel is reimbursed per MTSU Travel Policies.)
Terminal degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or other closely related field by appointment date. Minimum 3 years teaching experience as a teacher in public and/or private elementary school in the early grades (K-3).
Candidates with (1) experience working with diverse students (culturally, linguistically, ability) or in diverse school settings, (2) knowledge and skills related to early literacy, or (3) knowledge of using technology to enhance learning would receive special consideration.
