We need your help to create interactive lessons and materials that show students the importance of the 2020 Census and encourage census completion by their families.
Do you think the census doesn’t affect education? Think again. Full participation in the 2020 Census could translate into more resources for your school, less classroom crowding, or even the construction of a new school building.
Beyond determining the size of your state’s representation in Congress, census data are used to allocate funding for your community’s public schools, roads, hospitals, libraries, and more. More than $675 billion in federal funding is distributed each year to communities across the country based on the census population count.
The Statistics in Schools program helps students use Census Data in their classroom through lesson plans and interactive data tools. For the 2020 Census program, specific preschool materials will be created for children ages two to four.
Why should you help review Statistics in Schools (SIS) classroom materials?
This is a paid position. You will be compensated for the time you spend developing and reviewing SIS resources.
You will be part of a movement to teach students about civic duty and the importance of being counted in the 2020 Census.
You will be contributing to a national education program that benefits teachers and students across the country. SIS provides pre-K-12 educators like you with classroom activities and materials to use throughout the school year leading up to the next census in March 2020. We will be creating interactive maps, supplemental classroom activities, and discussion prompts based on real-life data and examples.
For more information and examples of more than 100 SIS activities and resources for students and teachers, visit our website at https://www.census.gov/schools/.
