Westside Neighborhood School, a Preschool-8 school serving over 520 students in west Los Angeles, is looking for an experienced, talented and highly professional Lead Toddler Teacher for our new preschool. Our DK-8 program is completing its 36th year, and we are completing construction of our new preschool facility this spring and launching our new program in fall 2017. We are already fully enrolled, and looking for outstanding early childhood educators who want to be a part of something very exciting in helping co-create an outstanding preschool program.
This is a full time position that begins in mid-August, 2017; some summer hours (July) will be required for professional development, classroom prep, and home visits to your students. Each classroom will accommodate approximately 10 children with one lead teacher and one assistant teacher.
Hours are minimally 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., although team planning meetings may require additional time. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required throughout the school year, as well. These positions include benefits and compensation is competitive.
Westside Neighborhood School is a private independent school that will include 520 students in preschool-8th grade in 2017-18. Eighty percent of our graduates attend independent high schools. Candidates for our preschool Lead Teacher positions should have knowledge of and experience in play-based, social constructivist practices and the Reggio Emilia approach, including experience in the implementation of the outdoor/natural classroom as an integral part of the program. Candidates must have a deep understanding of the cognitive and social-emotional development of children ages 2-5 years, and be a strong collaborative leader in the field of early childhood education.
The ability to assess children through observation, documentation and reflection in order to implement differentiated instruction is essential. Ongoing documentation of children’s work is vital to this position.
Teachers at WNS are expected to design engaging hands-on learning experiences that will enhance meaning-making opportunities for children. We are looking for candidates who are collaborative, flexible, compassionate, demonstrate a strong passion for early childhood education and a love of working with young children and families. Strong communication skills with parents and students and the ability to collaborate with other members of the faculty, are a must. Social Learning and creating a warm, welcoming, engaging classroom environment is a vitally important part of our program, and training in Responsive Classroom is required. Teachers will need to have strong writing and speaking skills and be computer literate.
Ideal Lead Teacher candidates should hold a B.A. or M.A. degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field and preschool classroom experience. In addition classroom duties, all faculty share in the daily supervision duties at the school and participate in professional development. A commitment to professional development, good sense of humor, creativity and strong interpersonal skills are essential. Candidates lacking these qualifications but are committed to a play-based early childhood education are invited to apply for the Teacher Assistant positions.
