The Nursery Care Coordinator manages the Sunday morning nursery for the Cathedral. The Nursery Care Coordinator is responsible for scheduling and managing adequate staffing (both paid attendants and volunteers), developing and implementing policies that ensure the safety and well-being of children, and promotes a loving, hospitable environment for regular members and visitors. The Nursery Care Coordinator manages the Nursery Care Attendants.
Among the duties assigned to the position are the following:
Provide primary child care and oversee volunteer and paid staff at appropriate ratios for the Nursery from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sundays and for special services as mutually agreed upon.
Develop and administer a nursery program focused on the safety and security of children while also providing a creative, loving environment and a variety of age-appropriate activities.
Coordinates staffing of nursery (paid and volunteer) staff. Arranges for substitutes when necessary; Notifies supervisor of any anticipated staffing shortages.
Develop policies/procedures for safety, hygiene, communication (including with parents).
Instruct volunteer and paid staff on policies and procedures.
Maintains all attendance records and registrations for nursery families.
Provides direct supervision, training and leadership to paid nursery staff.
Oversees payroll practices for the nursery staff. Approves the attendants’ time clock records by payroll deadlines.
Supervise and maintain all Nursery materials, equipment, supplies, and space. This includes supervising the routine inspection of and cleaning, storing, and stocking of equipment and supplies used in the Nursery. Report repair and maintenance needs.
2+ years experience in child care centers or church nurseries.
Hold current CPR and first aid certification.
Hold certificate in Safeguarding God’s Children course offered through the Diocese of Washington or other approved comparable certification.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge of the principles of child care.
Excellent communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with staff, children and parents.
Teaching skills highly desired.
Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to interact effectively and harmoniously with many different personalities.
Comfort working in a church setting with volunteers, parents, and staff.
