POSITION SUMMARY: The school director is responsible for all areas of a comprehensive early education program for children 0-5. This includes program leadership, educational leadership, and compliance monitoring. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These include but are not limited to the following. • Contributes to the development of the agency’s child development philosophy and goals. • Insures compliance with all city, state, and federal regulations. • Establishes monitoring procedures for all compliance issues. • Assures classroom team is creating an atmosphere in which children develop socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically. • Responsible for the recruitment of eligible children; ensures compliance with the enrollment/attendance requirements. • Maintains a quality program that meets the needs of children, families and staff. • Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with parents and families, the community and funders. • Interprets the Child Development Program to parents, families and the community. • Provides on-going supervision and staff development for all personnel. • Conducts regular staff meetings. • Recruits, coordinates and supervises volunteers including student teachers, field experience students, professionals, parent and family members, and senior citizens. • Supervises the maintenance of facilities and program equipment. • Ensures that team meetings and family reviews occur consistently. • Monitors program budget. • Plans and conducts parent meetings. • Plans and works in cooperation and collaboration with Administrative Team and works with Board of Directors as indicated. • Establishes and monitors record-keeping and reporting systems. • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)
• Love of children. • Extensive knowledge of child development. • Extensive knowledge of Head Start/Early Head Start Performance Standards and Requirements. • Knowledge of educational best practices. • Must be able to provide supervision to others. • Must have the ability to work under stress. • Must be able to use supervision effectively. • Must be able to maintain confidentiality. • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills. • Must have outstanding people skills and the ability to develop, grow, and maintain relationships with families. • Must have excellent oral and written skills in English. • Spanish fluency is preferred. • Must have sound judgment. • Must be a self-motivated person who can work both individually and on a team. • Must be able to take initiative. • Knowledge of the Reggio Emelia philosophy is a plus. • Must be able to serve as an advocate for children and families. • Must be able to work some weekends and evenings.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or School Administration • A minimum of two years of experience teaching in an early childhood classroom • A minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory role • Early Childhood experience preferred • Master’s Degree preferred
